Houston Refugee and Migrant Mentorship Program

SiSTEM’s proven history of increasing academic growth in underserved populations is well-documented and grounded in a practice that promotes equity. Additionally, we have secured contracts worth over $1,000,000 since 2019.  The case studies that follow demonstrate SiSTEM’s ability to simultaneously execute multiple contracts for diverse student populations and school types.

Let's dive into one of our recent partnerships, where SiSTEM worked with supporting Houston Refugee and Migrant Mentorship Program: 

Building on our ongoing relationship with Houston ISD, SiSTEM began a new formal mentoring agreement for the Multilingual Department.  SiSTEM’s mentors helped more than 400 students at four campus locations in the first quarter of 2023-2024 and hope to assist even more students throughout the school year.  SiSTEM’s mentors help newcomers adjust to the US educational system and understand the expectations of each campus.  As trusted adults, our mentors provide a safe space for asking questions and building the social confidence needed to achieve academic success. Additionally, SiSTEM’s mentors help students access wrap-around services including health care and food assistance.  Our mentors often serve on multiple campuses each day to accommodate the needs of students and the district.
